More than 500 delegates from China and overseas have gathered in Beijing for the 15th International Conference on Hydroinformatics. This year's theme is "from nature to digital water, challenges and opportunities." From Monday to Wednesday, delegates from governments, research institutes, international organizations, and enterprises will discuss the application of artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing in the management of water resources. WANG DAOXI Vice Minister, Chinese Ministry of Water Resources "We will make digital transformation our top priority to achieve high quality development in China's water sectors. We will build a monitoring system from sky to earth, monitoring rain and water resources with weather satellites, rain detection radar and hydrometric stations. We will also adopt digital technology to optimize algorithm and improve data models so that we can make better forecasts to reduce flooding and water disasters and optimize water management in China." PHILIPPE GOURBESVILLE President, International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research "Digital transformation in the water sectors is a key priority for many aspects. In fact, we have to deal with growing complexities regarding to the management of water, diversities of water uses, competitions among those uses, but also new threats coming from the climate change, also coming by the fact that we have less people interested to work with the water sectors. We need to improve the quality of our service, so we need to transform all of our business processes, doing more with less resources. We need to save water, to save energy but we need to be more efficient. Digital solution is there for helping us."
