The context of climate change impacts in Latin America and the Caribbean was explained by Dr. Waldo Lavado (Deputy Director of Hydrological Studies and Research at the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service of Peru). He further mentioned how Peru is addressing this issue with the development of hydrological modelling and forecasting of climate change impacts. Mr. Koen Verbist (UNESCO Natural Sciences Programme Specialist) introduced the CRIDA methodology as an approach that could be implemented across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to better address hydro-climatic hazards. Mr. Reinaldo Pe?ailillo, Senior Advisor at DELTARES further explained components of the CRIDA training for LAC and the planned activities.

The need to involve all stakeholder voices including those of affected local communities was echoed at the session. Making  hydrological and meteorological information and data readily accessible and available is another point that was raised.
