With the theme of “Implementation of the 2030 Agenda: Action, Action, Action”, the Sustainable Development Forum 2019 took place in Beijing, China on 24-25 October 2019. Around 300 guests representing local and national governments, UN Agencies, international organizations, businesses, academia and civil societies attended with a view to promoting knowledge sharing and policy discussions for enhancing actions towards SDGs.

“Successful implementation of the ambitious 2030 Agenda will depend on new and strengthened partnerships involving governments, businesses and civil society at global, regional, national and sub-national levels”, Mr. Nicholas Rosellini, UN Resident Coordinator in China stated in his keynote speech at the Forum.

Dr. Marielza Oliveira, Director of UNESCO Beijing Cluster Office and UNESCO Representative to the People’s Republic of China, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea introduced UNESCO’s direct contributions in delivering 9 SDGs through diversified collaborations with stakeholders at different levels. To consolidate their cooperation in achieving SDGs in the next 5 years, UNESCO and Center for International Knowledge on Development, China (CIKD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU primarily aims at implementing the outcomes of the First Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations (2019) with specific focuses on two initiatives. On the one hand, UNESCO and CIKD jointly launched a CIKD-UNESCO Education Base of Cultural Inclusiveness. The launching was officially announced at the Sustainable Development Forum on Oct. 24. In the future, it will provide a platform where young people could learn and contribute their ideas on SDGs.

On the other hand, UNESCO and CIKD will collaborate on raising the awareness and sense of mission of the young generation on sustainable development by holding series of activities, to engage young people as an important driving force for attaining the SDGs.

Sustainable Development Forum 2019 was organized by the China Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD), with the sponsorship and endorsement of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), Beijing Municipal Government, and a few other international organizations.
