On Feb. 20, 2019, Mr. Richard Taylor, the CEO of International Hydropower Association (IHA) visited IWHR. The delegation of IHA was received by IWHR President Dr. Kuang Shangfu, Vice President Dr. Peng Jing, Deputy director of IRTCES Dr. Ning Duihu, and relevant representatives from the Division of International Cooperation of IWHR.

Dr. Kuang warmly welcomed the delegation and reviewed the close cooperation between IWHR and IHA, which were reinforced by the highlight events in 2018, including the IHA Beijing Forum on Hydropower and Future Energy Systems and the Academic week of IWHR in celebration of its 60th birthday, during which the two sides have been mutually supportive as they always are. Dr. Kuang also expressed his hope for closer cooperation and greater achievements in common development in the next decade.

Mr. Taylor echoed Dr. Kuang’s comment on the cooperation between IWHR and IHA and expressed gratitude to IWHR for its consistent contribution and support to IHA. He said that the 7th IHA World Congress will be held at the birthplace of IHA--the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris. The congress will be a great venue for revealing the role of hydropower in realizing SDGs, and in addressing future challenges like climate change. He warmly welcomed the participation of IWHR in this event to share the Chinese experience and know-how in advancing the cause of sustainable hydropower development.

The two sides further exchanged views on concrete plans for exchange and cooperation.
